LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL. — At the end of October, the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States held their 124th National Convention at the Harbor Beach Marriott in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was the largest convention held in AAU history with an overwhelming number of volunteers and delegates who traveled from districts all over the United States to cast their votes for what was the first full election in over 20 years.

On Friday, October 24th Mr. Mirza was elected to his new position as the AAU National Treasurer for the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, Inc.

My focus will always be squarely on having the AAU support whatever is in the best interest of our athletes and coaches!”

Mr. Mirza, who lives with his family in the suburbs of Chicago, has been a member of the AAU for over forty years and is involved in many different aspects as outlined on the right.

A Black Belt Hall of Fame member he has chaired AAU/USA Karate Committee since 1987.  He holds positions in various international karate federations and continues to promote international karate movement throughout the globe.

Along with Mr. Mirza, four other officers were elected in congress. Dr. Roger Goudy was elected President, Rusty Buchanan was elected First Vice President, making it his second term in that position. Matt Williams was elected Second Vice President and Cynthia Trombly was elected as National Secretary. The newly elected officers are ready to get to work and believe that with teamwork, they will be able to work with National Chairs and volunteers in the organization to grow the AAU and reach one million members.
