Karate is pleased to present Stephanie Hillyer and Matthew Hillyer with the 2014 Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award. The Joel Ferrell Award is presented each year to an athlete who demonstrates outstanding athletic accomplishments and sportsmanship.  This year’s award was presented by Jo Mirza, the AAU Karate National Chair.

The Joel Ferrell Award in Karate is presented to a male and female athlete who received a medal in Kata, Kobudo and Kumite during the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Stephanie, 9 years old, and Matthew, 10 years old, both train under Sensei Charles Sweigart within the Washington Karate Association.
