There were over 1,023 competitors in attendance from all over the world including teams from Malaysia Italy, France, and Nepal to name a few. Senegal and athletes from all over Japan gathered at this event. Sensei John Limcaco stated, “Overall the competition was excellent and the skill level was very high. The organization of the tournament was amazing. The tournament started exactly at 9:30 and finished at 6 PM sharp.”
The day before competition the team was able to learn and train with former world champions as well as All-Japan champions. To have that opportunity to learn from them will be priceless and instrumental to the growth of their Karate career.
Sensei John Limcaco set three (3) goals for this trip that he wanted all the athletes to experience.
A learning experience of culture of Japan
To gain valuable experience from the tournament competition.
To have fun and to make life long memories.
The did exactly that! The athletes not only had an amazing experience they also came back with 1 – Gold Medal, 2 –Silver Medals, and 5 – Bronze Medals. The AAU team was made up Taylor Kaneshiro (HI, Shito-Ryu), Jason Nishime (OH, Shorin-Ryu), Isaac Friend (CA, Shito-Ryu) and Joseph Musumeci (NY, Shotokan). AAU teams are made up of athletes from across the country, regardless of style or dojo.
